Spring break wore me out. The weather was beautiful and the yard needed lots of attention. My body refuses to believe my brain. The smart thing tries to say, "You'll pay for this tomorrow, and the next day, and even into next week. You know you will!" But still...the little devil on my shoulder says, "Oh come on. You can do it. Don't give in to that wise guy." Well...it's been a week and the aches and pains have mostly subsided but in it's wake a wiser me has emerged. I have finally realized the old brain knows more than that little voice of unreason on my shoulder. A little bit a day for a week (or maybe two) would be much better than 12 hours of backbreaking labor for two days straight. There are downsides to stretching work out over time but that's mostly because we live in such a fast paced world that we believe we HAVE to get it ALL done NOW! Just so we can have more time to do more stuff!!! Well, after this spring I will have to stretch things out a bit more. I kinda think it's all in the big plan. As we get older we begin to see things we never bothered to notice when we were younger. And somehow...the grass seems greener and the flowers more vivid. The rains smell sweeter (though it makes the knees hurt more), the birds sound prettier and every day seems to bring a newness. So...I'll do the work I can in the time I can and when some young 'un asks, "It took you a week to do that?" I'm just gonna smile and say, "Yep." In time they'll understand and one day they'll look at me and say, "You got all that done in just one week?" To which I'll proudly reply, "Yep. Doesn't it look good? And I even had a little time left over to play with the grandkids, talk on the phone and read a book too." Stay sweet and enjoy life....love ya!

Spring has sprung here in our little part of the world. Pollen covers everything in a fine layer of yellow dust. Stay outside too long and your hair will become a visual of what's going on. The other day I was out recording an old family cemetery; taking photos of all the headstones. For those who may not know me well, I will go to many extremes to get the picture I want just right. For tombstones this often means laying on the ground. L came over that night to see her mom (me). I was looking up some family info on the computer and suddenly she burst out laughing. She said, "Mom, have you seen yourself in the mirror? You have leaves in your hair!" Visual proof...moms been in the woods! Can't hide a thing like that. I'm just wondering what the man at the post office thought. Or the woman at the bank.... Oh well, I'm old enough to longer care what they may have thought. But the expression on my daughter's face was priceless. I've been over the hill a while as far as she is concerned and there I sat with leaves in my hair to prove it. But me...well, I realize that I've crossed some line...the one that says I may not be as young as I once was...but I like where I'm at...leaves and all. Keep dry...stay sweet...love ya!
